(H) Bahraini protesters rally to support political prisoners

Anti-regime protesters have held a demonstration near Bahrain’s capital to show solidarity with the political prisoners jailed by the Saudi-backed Al Khalifa regime.

The demonstrators, who took to the streets on Thursday, promised not to end their protest rallies against the regime in Manama.

On Sunday, anti-regime demonstrators in the northern village of Dair blocked roads and burned tires in a protest action against the ruling Al Khalifa family.

Bahrain is in the midst of an ongoing popular revolution that started in mid-February 2011.

The Bahraini regime has harshly cracked down on the protests, killing scores of people and jailing many others.

The Saudi-backed regime is also accused of abusing prisoners as Western governments retain silence on the crackdown. This is while international rights organizations have severely criticized Manama over its rights violations.

The Bahraini public hold King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa responsible for deaths of protesters during the uprising.
