13-01-18 Gun control at home and mercenary wars abroad - No Civilized Society Without a General Draft!

In Mali, France initiated a classic colonial war in Africa.  The only rationale, if any, for France's actions is that Mali is a former French colony.  With it, France dragged other western nations into yet another war, with no consultation with the People of any of the parties involved.  One loses count of all the arenas in the world, where US armed forces are now involved in armed conflicts...

Although many do not see the relationship, the common theme between current conduct of France and other western nations in Mali and gun control in the US, is that they both show that you cannot maintain a civilized society without a general draft.

With a general draft, the armed forces are true representatives of the People, not of government.

With a general draft, the People at large are made competent in the use of firearms.

With a general draft, true representation of the People is constantly bearing arms. 

With a general draft, there is no way to use the armed forces (and that includes today Homeland Security and rogue police forces) against the People.

With a general draft, there is no way to conduct foreign policy, where the US eagerly jumps into any war opportunity, anywhere in the world.

With a general draft, it becomes very difficult to hide from the People, what is going on in the armed forces, both at home and abroad. 

This has been the case at least since the Roman Empire - once you start relying on a mercenary army to fight your imperial wars, the republic ceases to exist!   In particular, the combination of a mercenary army and strict gun control at home is a sure recipe for the end of civilized society.  Basically, the People of the US must choose - the comfort of enslavement, or liberty including the duty to serve in the armed forces.

Interesting perspective. I have long maintained that the US Army consist of a core of highly trained officers and non-coms who are constantly training a rotating corps of civilians who serve an initial 2-year enlistment, followed by periodic re-training of one to four months every 5 or so years. This would be a general draft, with virtually every citizen trained. Mobilization, when needed, would be nearly instant, and the citizen/soldier would remain trained and armed to resist intrusion from any source, foreign or domestic. On reflection, this would be very much like the Swiss model.

There are also numerous other benefits, social and economic (serving as a true melting pot for "nation building", creating a common basic training for employment), but that is besides the point.  It is also closer to the perpective of some of the framers on standing armies.  But that is also besides the point.  The point is that it is a no brainer that otherwise, the people are doomed to be enslaved between gun control, a mercenary army, controled by the central government, and roaming local gangs of rogue police...  jz
