War Primer 2: Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin at the Photographers’ Gallery
There is a wonderful exhibition at the British Library at the moment, called Propaganda: Power and Persuasion. Heavily informed by the work of dissidents such as Noam Chomsky and John Pilger, and their ceaseless efforts to expose the hidden ugly face of state power, the exhibition seeks to expose how states (including Western ‘democratic’ states such as the UK and the US) have succeeded, and continue to succeed, in manipulating public attitudes through propaganda. Meanwhile, one mile down the road at the Photographers’ Gallery, an art project by photographic duo Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin, with its interest in state power and with how images are interpreted, complements perfectly the British Library exhibition.Source:
