Under both W Bush and Obama, corruption of the US government has accelerated

I met here in Barcelona a Nigerian Medicine/Epidemiology professor, who
came for a conference. I am somewhat familiar with corruption in Nigeria
(including the role of Republican Dick Cheney...) from participating in the
World Criminology Congress last year.
I tried to give this guy in less than 5 minutes the intro to the State of
the Union. He listened in disbelief, but wrote down key facts to check on
me.
He tried to argue that corruption in Nigeria is different, since it affects
all People in all fields of life. I argued that the same is true in the
United State.
When I got to the point that today, according to US government data (likely
to be falsified), 50% of the People of the United States are around or
below poverty he concluded in amazement: "It is a Third World nation."
I explained to him that the only difference from my perspective between the
US and Nigeria, is the US control of media, including entertainment,
through which it manages to cover up the true facts regarding what happened
in the US in recent decades.

I fully agree that the Rule of Law and journalism are dead in the United
States for some time now.
However, the process did not start with Obama, but much earlier, under both
Republican and Democratic administrations.
Where does it leave us?
I was trying to provide the historic perspective from Barcelona, Catalonia.
I am still to figure out why the aging Franco of his own free will
decided to reestablish the monarchy in 1969 (Franco died in 1975), which
started the process of reestablishment of Civil Society in Spain.
Even today, over a quarter century later, Spain is unable to reckon with
its Fascist past, and former Fascists are part of various government
branches. That fact is likely to come back to haunt Spain.
As to the role of the United States in Fascist Spain:
American President Richard Nixon toasted Franco, and, after Franco's death,
stated: "General Franco was a loyal friend and ally of the United States."
It is impossible to tell how long it would be before the rule of law and
Civil Society are reestablished in the United States. Even then, it would
take much longer for the People of the United States to honestly reckon
with what took place in the late 20th century and the early 21st century.
Too many individuals in all three branches of government, and outside of
government are involved. It is betrayal of the People by the educated and
professional class, staring with the judges and legal profession.
