Please join the urgent international petition, calling upon Tel-Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai to stop actions against the homeless in the OccupyTLV camp, scheduled to start October 19, 2014!
The letter joins the calls by celerated autor Sami Michael and the Israeli Association for Civil Rights for delaying any actions against the homeless in the park, and expansion of a wall that has been built in recent days, to drastically restrict the area of the park, where the homeless live.
The camp was established in November 2014, based on an agreement by the Tel-Aviv Municipality and the Israeli Social Protest movement. In the two years since then, the camp has become the only place in the Greater Tel-Aviv area, where the homeless can sleep safely and build a tent.
Today's letter by Joseph Zernik, PhD, of Human Rights Alert (NGO), notes that actions of the municipality are arbitrary and capricious and are is likely to create even less reasonable living conditions for those of the underprivileged persons who stay. Other, will be driven from the only shelter available to them in Tel-Aviv, unreasonable as it is, to the streets, where they would create unnecessary disturbance for other city residents and would likely face daily confrontations with municipality enforcement personnel.
The letter also requests extension of time before any action, expansion of the unreasonably restricted walled area, and decent conduct by the authorities.

מאהל המחאה ת"א - 4 לאוקטובר - בקשה הופנה לראש עיריית ת"א רון חולדאי לשיקול דעת חוזר של פעולות נגד דרי רחוב במאהל המחאה ת"א, המתוכננות החל ב-19 לאוקטובר.
הפנייה לראש עיריית ת"א מצטרפת לקריאתם של הסופר סמי מיכאל והאגודה לזכויות האזרח לעכב את הפעולות נגד דרי הרחוב בגן ולהרחבת השטח המגודר בימים אלה, ומקטין בצורה קיצונית את שטח מחייתם של דרי הרחוב.
המאהל הוקם בנובמבר 2012, בכפוף להסכם בין עיריית ת"א ותנועת המחאה. בשנתיים שעברו מאז, הפך המאהל למקום היחידי בת"א, בו יכולים דרי רחוב לישון בבטחה ולהקים אוהל.
הבקשה שהופנתה היום על ידי דר' יוסף צרניק, מסייג לזכויות האדם (NGO), מציינת שבנוסף לעצומה העברית ברשת, שנפתחה על ידי האגודה, נפתחה היום גם עצומה בינלאומית באנגלית.
פעולותיה של עיריית ת"א נגד העניים וחסרי הבית אינן תואמות את מערכת יחסי הציבור שהעירייה מנהלת זה שנים בעלות גבוהה, במטרה ל"מתג" את תל-אביב כעיר ידידותית, מכניסת אורחים, ועיר מסיבות בינלאומית...
בכללן, פעולות העירייה נראות שרירותיות וגחמניות, וקרוב לוודאי שייצרו תנאי מחייה עוד פחות סבירים עבור חסרי היכולת שיישארו במאהל. אחרים יאלצו לעזוב את המקלט היחיד המצוי בת"א, בלתי סביר כשהינו, ולעבור לרחובות, בהם יהפכו למטרד לתושבי העיר, ויתעמתו עם אנשי עירייה.
המכתב מבקש את הארכת הזמן לפני החלת כל פעולה, את הרחבת השטח המגודר, שצימצומו בלתי סביר, והתנהלות הוגנת של הרשויות.
העתק המכתב הועלה לרשת. [1] העתקים נשלחו לאגודה לזכויות האזרח בישראל, לפעילים, וחברי מועצת העיר, ולחברי כנסת.
