Occupy Tel Aviv, January 14 - Haaretz daily finally published today some more details of an erupting scandal, involving claims of attempts of bribing of a senior Israel Police officer - today Head of the Fraud Squad - by a well-connected "kabbalist' rabbi Pinto.

Over the past couple of days, Haaretz published cryptic news of the scandal, but failed to state what it was.

Today, additional details were published.  Rabbi Pinto allegedly tried to bribe a senior Israel Police officer in order to obtain details of an investigation against him.

Rabbi Pinto, typical of Israel, is well-connected with senior state officials, tycoons, and crime families.

Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein was apparently delaying any investigation against the rabbi until recently...

The story is still not openly reported...

Occupy Tel-Aviv, January 14 - media reports of the last two days clarify the central facts in the latest court scandal:

* This is not the first, but the second time Attorney Manosevich embezzles clients funds in recent years.  This time - over NIS 10 millions of home buyers. Some remain homeless in the aftermath.

* Attorney Manosevich is former Chair of the Israel Bar Ethics Committee.

* Attorney Manosevich is former Member of the highest Disciplinary Tribunal of the Bar.

* Attorney Manosevich is father of Tel Aviv District Court Judge Hannah Pliener.

* The case is being heard in the Tel Aviv District Court.

* Decree prohibiting publication of the story was in force for many months, for inexplicable reasons, rescinded only in recent days.

Will this repeat offender be criminally prosecuted?

Will his license to practice the law be revoked?

* Yesterday I erected a sign "OccupyTLV".  Today the sign was removed by "State Persons" (that is what the Municipality Inspector calls them).

* Today I tried to erect another sign, again, "State Persons" with help from a law enforcement implant prevented it.

"State Persons" are a Muslim family from Iraq, with no relationship to the Social Protest movement, which was implanted here by security forces on the main front of the Occupy Tel Aviv camp (which operates with permit).

Law enforcement implants - a former policeman, who served prison term, violent, had court decree prohibiting him from the Occupy camp - but the decree was not enforced.

Volunteers are sought to protect me while I try to exercise my Freedom of Expression, Freedom to Demonstrate.

It should also be noted that "State Persons" and the law enforcement implant have built here structures that no one else was permitted to build, and we are yet to see any equal enforcement of the law on them.

Amidar is the government public housing corporation.  A wave of eviction of families and individuals from public housing is a major cause of homelessness.  The Israeli government adopted a policy of eliminating public housing, increasing poverty and homelessness.

The new graffiti is on a major Tel Aviv avenue, next to the Amidar offices.

 משלחת אנשי פיקוח, רבעים ושכונות, רווחה, דוברות, ואחרים הגיעה ובילתה פה כשעתיים:

1) אחד מאנשי העיריה תקף את איליאן הצלם לפני עדים רבים.  בהמשך טענו אנשי העיריה שהתוקף "נפצע" והתפנה לבי"ח.

2) נתנו לאירנה 24 שעות לדאוג לחיסונים לכלב.  דרושה עזרה, כי אין לה אמצעים ויקחו לה את הכלב.

3) נתנו לרוב אנשי המאהל נייורות "הודעה/ דרישה" עם דרישות שונות לשינויים.

4) מבנה השירותים, העומד בתוך שלולית ללא ניקוז, ומהווה מפגע תברואתי חמור, והוקם /  על ידי קבלן עבור העיריה מכספי משלם המיסים - אין בעיה. אנו מבקשים עזרה מרופא שיגיש תלונה רשמית למשרד הבריאות!

5) מבנה שנבנה על ידי עמותת "לשובע" עבור העיריה ואינו מטופל לא על ידי העיריה ולא ע"י לשובע, והפך למפגע תברואתי ובטיחותי - אין בעיה.

ביקשנו שיביאו אנשי ניקיון לפנות ערימות אשפה - ונקווה שניענה בחיוב.

A large delegation of Muni employees, inspection, welfare, spokeswoman and others appeared today in the camp:
1) One of the muni employees attacked Ilian, the photographer, in front of numerous witnesses. Later, muni employees claimed that the attacker was wounded, and needed to go to the hospital...
2) Irena got 24 hours to get vaccinations for her dog.  She needs help, because she is penniless, and they are going to take her dog!
3) Most people received papers titled "Notice/Demand" with various comments.
4) Toilets/shower installation, built by a contractor for the muni, at taxpayers expense, which sits in a large puddle of sewage, since it has no adequate drainage - a major health hazard - no problem.
5) A homeless shelter, which was built by the muni through a non-profit association, but is maintained by neither the muni nor by the association, and which is rapidly turning into a health and security hazard - no problem.
We asked that the municipality take action to remove garbage, and we hope that it will be done.

The authorities try to make the camp become invisible, so we are moving the signs to the front.  The sign says: Moshe Silman (self-immolated social protest activist) = corruption of the courts!  Silman was subjected to fraud by the Tel Aviv District Court, after all he had was taken by the Social Security Administration... was left in the street by the state authrotiy that was supposed to be the safety network!

Today, We Remember Aaron.
One year ago today the digital rights movement lost one of our most powerful activists and closest friends. Aaron fought for open access to publicly funded research. He worked against censorship and to defend a free and open internet. Aaron was a brilliant technologist who pioneered the development of the open source software that would become SecureDrop. He also helped launch Creative Commons, founded Demand Progress, and co-founded Reddit.

And as the Internet community confronted massive new challenges to privacy and free speech in 2013, there were many moments when we wondered quietly about what Aaron would have said and done.

Today, we remember Aaron. It is in his memory that we continue to fight for the rights of users around the world. At the time of Aaron's death, he was being harshly prosecuted for violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, an outdated law full of vague language that broadly criminalizes accessing a computer without "authorization," but doesn't explain what that actually means.

In 2014 we renew our vow to fight in Aaron's honor. As we move forward with our goal of ensuring our rights go with us when we go online, EFF remembers everything Aaron Swartz did to defend openness, innovation, and online freedom.
