On the way out of Israel, I was stopped by security even before I entered the airport, was pulled to the side for a few questions...
On the way back, in the Zurich airport, after all the Swiss security checks, there was one last Israeli security check at the gate itself. I presented my boarding pass. 
The young security guy (~30) asked me where I have been. 
I answered "Zurich and Berlin".
Then his supervisor (over 50) intervened: "And what exactly did you do in Los Angeles?"
"I lived there for over 20 years," I answered.
"And what happened to your US passport?"
"I paid good money to get rid of it, " I answered.
Then the young guy intervened, "Yeah, that's what everybody in finance does nowadays".
I thought it was funny:
* The older guy had to show that they knew everything about me.
* The young guy mistook me for a bankster...
* The young guy confirmed what was clear to me for a long time - there is a large wave of renunciations.

Going back home today. 
Again this time, in Berlin I got news of the outcome major campaigns: In 2010 in a Rosa Luxembourg Platz internet cafe' the news reached me that California whistle-blower Richard Fine was released from prison with congratulations from friends. This time around, I am better taken care off - in a Charlottenburg fine home, the news reached me that Israeli whistle-blower Rafi Rotem won a settlement with the state with congratulations from friends.
The beautiful guest room here has an interesting collection of literature. What caught me was a story by Milan Kundera "The Great Return", about his meeting with his brother on the one hand, and with a former communist official who was his friend, on the other, upon returning to Prague after the fall of communism. Highly recommended.

In a previous case, a judge in Texas had an affair with the prosecutor during a capital punishment case. The US Supreme Court saw no problem with the death sentence that was the outcome of that case.
HERE: A case involving former Wayne Circuit Court Judge Wade McCree over a lawsuit involving his alleged former mistress has made its way to the nation’s highest court.
The case, which has been slated for preliminary review by the U.S. Supreme Court on Jan. 23, stems from a lawsuit filed by Robert King, the father of a child with McCree’s alleged former girlfriend, Geniene La’Shay Mott.
McCree had a sexual relationship with Mott while presiding over a 2012 child support case between her and King. It was revealed during judicial disciplinary hearings on a complaint of judicial misconduct that Mott and McCree traded texts about King during the child support hearings. Talking with people who are relatively informed and interested in human rights, I am repeatedly surprised to see how uninformed they are regarding conditions in the US and Israel/Palestine. The main issue is whether it is legitimate to compare conditions in the US or Israel today with various totalitarian regimes, e.g. former communist East Germany.
So here, just as one way of attempting to understand condtions today, I look at the right to demonstrate:
* In the US - the pictures below are from recent demonstrations in Los Angeles and Florida.
* In Germany - I am hard pressed to find similar pictures from Germany in recent years. Demonstration are typically peaceful, and if there is any violence, it is typically not by police.
* In Israel - many of the demonstrations in Palestine end up with dead Palestinians, shot by IDF.
