Ireland Wants Answers: Why Was Finance Minister at Bilderberg Meeting?

As it appears Iceland is starting to arrest those responsible for its financial ruin (see unconfirmed story, below, on Iceland), just across the waters this week, Ireland’s Finance Minister Michael Noonan is facing tough questions from his parliamentary colleagues  as to why he attended the 2012 Bilderberg Meeting last month – and what he said.

But he’s not talking…

He was invited to attend the meeting “given my position as Minister for Finance” and used the opportunity to tell fellow attendees of the opportunities that exist in Ireland for investors and multinational companies.

Mr Noonan, along with former attorneys general Paul Gallagher and Peter Sutherland, was one of 145 invited leaders and opinion formers who took part in the three-day conference of the western world’s movers and shakers in Chantilly, Virginia.

His attendance was queried by a number of TDs from Labour, Sinn Féin and the technical group, all of whom sought information in parliamentary questions on his discussions at the meeting and the cost.

Mr Noonan told the Deputies that he outlined the significant progress Ireland was making in restoring stability and growth to the economy.

Pat Nulty, who lost the Labour whip last year over opposition to budget cuts, said Mr Noonan’s response lacked detail.

“The Irish people have a right to know what their senior Ministers are saying at a meeting like this, and what stance they are taking on global issues.”

In the wake of Bilderberg, it has been rumoured that the three elitist institutions are considering relaxing the terms of the bailout to allow Ireland to return to borrowing on the open market.

Previously leaked documents from meetings have illustrated how the Bilderberg Group, contrary to the media-generated myth that the confab represents a harmless talking shop, sets the consensus for policy decisions sometimes decades in advance.

A clear example is the 1955 Bilderberg meeting held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, West Germany. Documents read by the BBC and later released by Wikileaks divulge how Bilderberg members were discussing the creation of the euro single currency nearly 40 years before it was officially introduced in the 1992 Maastricht Treaty.

In the US, politicians attending Bilderberg have been charged with violating the Logan Act, a law passed under the John Adams administration in 1799 which states that it is illegal for “unauthorized citizens” to negotiate with foreign governments.

Abandoning proper legal process? Such thinking seems so  - to borrow words from the eminent legal scholar Alberto Gonzales - so "quaint," so "obsolete," so pre-9/11! Abandoning proper legal process post-9/11 has become the "new paradigm" adopted not only by the Bush, but also by the Obama administration.

Not only is Julian Assange within his rights to seek asylum, he is also in his right mind. Consider this: he was about to be sent to faux-neutral Sweden, which has a recent history of bowing to U.S. demands in dealing with those that Washington says are some kind of threat to U.S. security. Glenn Greenwald on Tuesday provided an example:

"In December 2001, Sweden handed over two asylum seekers to the CIA, which then rendered them to be tortured in Egypt. A ruling from the U.N. Human Rights Committee found Sweden in violation of the global ban on torture for its role in that rendition (the two individuals later received a substantial settlement from the Swedish government)."

COINTELPRO (an acronym for Counter Intelligence Program) was a series of covert, and often illegal,[2] projects conducted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) aimed at surveilling, infiltrating, discrediting, and disrupting domestic political organizations.

The FBI has used covert operations against domestic political groups since its inception; however, covert operations under the official COINTELPRO label took place between 1956 and 1971.[3] COINTELPRO tactics included discrediting targets through psychological warfare; smearing individuals and groups using forged documents and by planting false reports in the media; harassment; wrongful imprisonment; and illegal violence, including assassination.[4][5][6] The FBI's stated motivation was "protecting national security, preventing violence, and maintaining the existing social and political order."[7]

FBI records show that 85% of COINTELPRO resources targeted groups and individuals that the FBI deemed "subversive,"[8] including communist and socialist organizations; organizations and individuals associated with the civil rights movement, including Martin Luther King, Jr. and others associated with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the Congress of Racial Equality and other civil rights organizations; black nationalist groups; the American Indian Movement; a broad range of organizations labeled "New Left", including Students for a Democratic Society and the Weathermen; almost all groups protesting the Vietnam War, as well as individual student demonstrators with no group affiliation; the National Lawyers Guild; organizations and individuals associated with the women's rights movement; nationalist groups such as those seeking independence for Puerto Rico, United Ireland, and Cuban exile movements including Orlando Bosch's Cuban Power and the Cuban Nationalist Movement; and additional notable Americans—even Albert Einstein, who was a member of several civil rights groups, came under FBI surveillance during the years just prior to COINTELPRO's official inauguration.[9] The remaining 15% of COINTELPRO resources were expended to marginalize and subvert "white hate groups," including the Ku Klux Klan and the National States' Rights Party.[10]

FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover issued directives governing COINTELPRO, ordering FBI agents to "expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit, or otherwise neutralize" the activities of these movements and their leaders.[11][12]

The original complaint, filed June 6, 2012, [1] detailed:
a) Serious threats
b) Harassment
c) Attempt to harm a police officer on duty.

The addendum detailed:
a) Organizing illegal drug sales
b) Undermining basic security procedures in a public building.

The crime investigator, who took the original complaint, refused to deal with the case any longer.

Instead, I was referred to the City Center Station's Intelligence Officer. He in turn claimed that it was beyond his authority, since it involved attempt to harm a police officer on duty. He referred me to the YAMAR Officer of the District. The latter immediately knew, who "Haim/Yoel/Shmuel" was, and promised to follow up.

Combined, the complaints, and additional evidence, show a pattern of inducing public disorder and criminal environment, in places that were orderly and law-abiding.

Minnesota Man Brutalized by SWAT Executive Officer for Talking Loud on Cell Phone (Updated)

An epidemic of police brutality and outright crazy behavior from law enforcement was illustrated once again, as an executive officer of the Minneapolis SWAT team "Superman punched" Brian Vander Lee for talking too loud on his cell phone while standing on the patio of a restaurant.

The account given by Brian Vander Lee's friend in the video below perfectly captures the disbelief when those who are sworn to protect the public become predators.  An interesting background note is mentioned about the assailant, Sgt. David Clifford, in the Raw Story article about the incident:

An online biography indicated that Clifford had served with the Army�s 82nd Airborne Division as team leader of Personal Security Detachments in Kosovo and Iraq.

While it would be unfair to definitively conclude  that Clifford's training and experience might have desensitized him to acts of extreme violence, it is a footnote that should give pause as police throughout the country continue on a militarized path, with many local law enforcement agencies hiring those who have spent time in dangerous theaters of war.

Brian Vander Lee's family can receive benefit donations at any TCF Bank location for those who can lend their support to help cover costs for this outrageous and tragic incident that caused this father of four to spend Father's Day in intensive care.

Update: good news is being reported by MyFox9.com: Brian is responding to commands and can wiggle his fingers and toes. Meanwhile, Sgt. David Clifford has officially been charged with 3rd degree assault.  Do you believe this is a fitting charge for the crime?  Feel free to comment below.
