Obama Team Feared Coup If He Prosecuted War Crimes
President-Elect Obama's advisers feared in 2008 that authorities would oust him in a coup and that Republicans would block his policy agenda if he prosecuted Bush-era war crimes, according to a law school dean who served as one of Obama's top transition advisers.
University of California at Berkeley Law School Dean Christopher Edley, Jr., above, the sixth highest-ranking member of the 2008 post-election transition team preparing Obama's administration, revealed the team's thinking on Sept. 2 in moderating a forum on 9/11 held by his law school (also known as Boalt Hall). Edley was seeking to explain Obama's "look forward" policy on suspected Bush-era law-breaking that the president-elect announced on a TV talk show in January 2009.
But Edley's rationale implies that Obama, or at least his team, feared the military/national security forces that the president is supposed be commanding -- and that Republicans have intimidated him right from the start of his presidency even after voters in 2008 rejected Republicans by the largest combined presidential-congressional mandate in recent U.S. history.

September 8, 2011 - Like this?
Dick Cheney, promoting his new book, was met by approximately 75 human rights defenders wanting him indicted for war crimes, wearing orange jumpsuits and black hoods, chanting in megaphones outside Nixon Presidential Library & Museum in the conservative Yorba Linda, Orange County, CA. Wednesday night before the former Vice President's presentation there.

Eurozone Deathwatch
By Mike Whitney
There's no way to overstate the calamity that's unfolding across the Atlantic. The eurozone is imploding.

I have recently been talking and traveling with a number of educated Europeans, some of them involved in information discovery and analysis.
The future script is anybody's guess, but there is a lot of unease and anxiety in Europe about what is going to happen:
· An Austrian diplomat in the making predicted major changes in the European political systems, since it "simply does not work"...
· A Swiss well to do, reasonable, family is investing in Africa (Ethiopia, Somalia) and some family members have already moved there, to hedge against potential catastrophic disaster in Europe...
· German media guys from Berlin predicted that while the world's population today is 7 B, within our lifetime it will be reduced to 2 B...
Needless to say, you meet many Americans, who are staying out of the US, some with all kinds of doomsday predictions... The Americans tend to blend into the mix more apocalyptic, religious narratives...
The Europeans take it in a more secular, dialectical way...

THEY DID IT: Swiss National Bank Makes Epic Intervention Move, Sending The Swiss Franc Plunging
The long rumored Swiss Franc peg has arrived...
The Swiss National Bank is tired of the surging Franc, and is taking intervention to the next level.
Here's the press release the SNB just put out (hat tip to Robert Sinn for linking to it):
The current massive overvaluation of the Swiss franc poses an acute threat to the Swiss
economy and carries the risk of a deflationary development.
The Swiss National Bank (SNB) is therefore aiming for a substantial and sustained
weakening of the Swiss franc. With immediate effect, it will no longer tolerate a EUR/CHF
exchange rate below the minimum rate of CHF 1.20. The SNB will enforce this minimum
rate with the utmost determination and is prepared to buy foreign currency in unlimited
quantities.
Even at a rate of CHF 1.20 per euro, the Swiss franc is still high and should continue to
weaken over time. If the economic outlook and deflationary risks so require, the SNB will
take further measures.

This kind of floor/peg has been speculated on in recent weeks, but this is still an unbelievable move that will require ongoing Franc printing by the SNB to work.
Here's a look at the dollar against the Franc, via FinViz. Epic 8% jump.
The ECB has put out this brief statement:
The Governing Council of the European Central Bank has been informed by the Swiss National Bank about its decision to “no longer tolerate a EUR/CHF exchange rate below the minimum rate of CHF 1.20.”
The Governing Council takes note of this decision, which has been taken by the Swiss National Bank under its own responsibility.
