Los Angeles, November 7 – with the launching by Alternet and others of public listing of the 1% SubCrime figures, Joseph Zernik, PhD, of Human Rights Alert (NGO), has nominated Sandor Samuels, former Chief Legal Officer of Countrywide and former Associate General Counsel of Bank of America to the list.
In justifying the nomination, Dr Zernik says:
- Sandor Samuels’ net personal worth may be smaller than that of co-conspirators Angelo Mozilo and Brian Moynihan. But in his years in Countrywide and Bank of America, he was the key person in corrupting banking regulators, California and US judges, and in the massive fraud on fraud perpetrated on homeowners, on shareholders, and on taxpayers.
- Moreover, Mr Samuels has the audacity to hide today under the title of President of the Los Angeles Bet Tzedek (“The House of Justice”), an affiliate of the Los Angeles Jewish Federation. Worse yet, the evidence shows Mr Samuels engaging in racketeering in collusion with his Bet Tzedek friends – David Pasternak (former President of Bet Tzedek and former President of the Los Angeles County Bar Association) and Terry Friedman (former Executive Director of Bet Tzedek and former California Judge). The evidence also shows Sandor Samuels engaging in racketeering on the grounds of Bet Tzedek, from the office of the President of Bet Tzedek.
- The evidence of racketeering by Countrywide and Bank of America in the California courts was part of Human Rights Alert’s submission for the 2010 UPR (Universal Periodic Review) of Human Rights in the United States by the Human Rights Council of the United Nations. The submission was later incorporated into the official Professional Staff Report, with a note referring to “corruption of the courts and the legal profession and discrimination by law enforcement in California.”
Moreover, subsequent events showed that Sandor Samuels crimes was patronized by senior figures in the US justice system:
- FBI Assistant Director for Criminal Investigations Kenneth Kaiser;
- US Department of Justice Director “Fast and Furious” Kenneth Melson;
- US Judge Virginia Phillips, US Magistrate Carla Woehrle, and Clerk Terry Nafisi in the US District Court, Central District of California;
- Circuit Judges Stephen Reinhardt, Marsha Berzon and Milan Smith, as well as Clerk Molly Dwyer in the US Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit;
- Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Mary Schapiro;
- Comptroller of the Currency John Dugan;
- Office of Thrift Supervision;
- Office of Federal Trade Commission.
- President of the Los Angeles Bet Tzedek (“House of Justice”), an affiliate of the Los Angeles Jewish Federation.
- Board Member of the Los Angeles American Jewish University and the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies (Rabbi Robert Wexler)
- Board Member of Shalhevet School
- Board Member of Adat Ari-El synagogue, Los Angeles (Rabbi Jonathan Bernhardt)
“There simply is no shame left,” concludes Dr Zernik.
