On Sunday, Nov 30, 2014, Mahmoud Al-Kadi from the Bedouin settlement Rahat in the southern Negev desert was detained. Prior to his detention, he had called his family from the bus station near the town of Sederot and told them: "I am on the way home".
When he failed to arrive, his family tried to call him back. Finally, a policeman answered, and told them that Mahmoud was detained in the Kiryat Gat police station.
A relative went to the station with food, and heard Mahmoud yelling. Police informed the relative:"Tomorrow morning at 10:00 am he will be brought to court for extension of his detention".
While his wife waited in court the next morning, his wife received a phone call that her husband had committed suicide and that she should come to take his body from police. The family went to the police and demanded that an autopsy be performed to establish the cause of death.
Police objected.
The family went to the Magistrate Court and requested that an autopsy be ordered. The magistrate judge ordered the autopsy.
Police filed an appeal.
The appeal was granted.
The family re-filed a request for the autopsy with the District Court, and demanded that a pathologist on its behalf be present in the autopsy as well. The District Court granted the request and ordered that a Jenin, Palestine, pathologist be present in the autopsy at the family's request.
Following the autopsy it was stated that the pathological report would be issued within two weeks.
The family believes that Mahmoud died as a result of violence during interrogation.

ביום ראשון 30.11.2014 נעצר מחמוד אל-קאדי מרהט. לפני שנעצר הוא צלצל למשפחתו מתחנת אוטובוס ליד שדרות ואמר להם: 'אני בדרך הביתה'. משבושש להגיע התקשרו אליו בני משפחתו מספר פעמים לברר היכן הוא. לבסוף ענה להם שוטר שהודיע להם שהוא במעצר בתחנת המשטרה בקריית גת. קרוב משפחה שהגיע לתחנת המשטרה עם אוכל בשבילו, שמע אותו צורח. השוטרים הודיעו לחבר: 'מחר בבוקר בשעה -10.00, הוא יובא לבית משפט להערכת מעצר'. בשעה שאשתו חיכתה בבית המשפט, היא קיבלה טלפון שבעלה התאבד ושתבוא לקבל את גופתו.
המשפחה הגיעה לתחנת המשטרה ודרשה לערוך ניתוח לאחר המוות, כדי לדעת את סיבת המוות. השוטרים סרבו. המשפחה פנתה לבית משפט השלום בבקשה שיורה על נתיחה. השופט נתן הוראה: לערוך ניתוח. המשטרה ערערה. השופט קיבל את הערעור. המשפחה פנתה לבית המשפט המחוזי והוסיפה ודרשה שפתולוג מטעמה יהיה נוכח בנתיחה. בית המשפט המחוזי קיבל את הדרישה, והורה שפתולוג מג'נין יהיה נוכח בנתיחה. לאחר הניתוח, נקבע שחוות הדעת תינתן בעוד שבועיים. ביום חמישי בערב, לאחר הנתיחה, הובא מחמוד לקבורה.
לדברי המשפחה נאלצ לסבול את העיכוב בקבורה, למרות שמבחינה דתית ומסורתית מומלץ לקבור את המת מהר ככל האפשר, היות ואנו חוששים שהסיבה למותו היא האלימות שהופעלה כנגדו במשך החקירה.
