לאט לאט ממדי המשבר מתגלים. קשה להאמין שארה"ב תוכל לצאת מזה כמעצמה. זה ייקח עשרות שנים, וכשהם יצאו מזה, יתברר שהפסידו עשרות שנים של התפתחות כלכלית-חברתית, והם אומת עולם שלישי עם מאגר אדיר של נשק גרעיני... פחות או יותר המצב כבר עכשיו על פי מדדים רבים...
