2014-10-13 ISRAEL: Chairman of Parliament (Knesset) threatens citizens, who initiated a transparency campaign!
=================
Knesset Chairman Yuli Edelstein, in a radio interview, went balistic against the "Civil Transparency" campaign, launched by journalist Tomer Avital: "100 days of transparency".
The initiative raised over NIS 160,000 from the public, to launch a supervision system, and followup on conduct of the Members of Knesset. In particular - against those who resist any transparency.
Edelstein said: "If any of that group hears me now, I tell them: "Folks. stop before it is too late. Beacuase if any of you would end up in court or in prison, handcuffed, I am not going to cry. There are limits to anything..." "
Edelstein could not provide any reasonable explanation, why he objected to the intiative. Instead, he provided some delusional story as justicification.
Then he continued thereatening: "I tell these folks, who even raise funds for this activity, that anybody who is involved, would be barred from entering the parliament building. He would not be permitted to enter... Folks, if you are listening to me, stop it yourself, or I would have to stop it."
Tomer Avital provided the following response:
"I am happy to see that the initative starts discussion regarding transparency - that is our first aim. I also would like to stress that had the members of Knesset not kill bills on this basic issue, we would have no reason to conduct this conversation. The reality today is incredible: Members of Knesset secretly hold stock, write bills, and secretly vote on policy. We have no idea regarding their vacation time - although we are their employers. It is an absurd situation, which required absurd measures. "
"The response by Knesset Chiar Yuli Edelstein, whom I respect, reveals their true attitude. They are scared of the moment, when sunshine would bring to light their schedules.. What are they hiding? We are not trying to threaten. We are only trying to figure out. why Israeli is in first place in the Western wolrd in members of Parliament in absentia."
"We comply with the law, not conducting any eavedropping, secret photography, or any stalking. I would like to remind people that it is the members of Knesset, who often employ private detectives in a very problematic way."
